Zara McDermott Instagram – Today, The Princess of Wales & I visited the Dame Kelly Holmes Trust as part of the Shaping Us campaign and Mental Health Awareness Week. Hearing about the difficulties that young people are facing at schools are issues I’ve heard time and time again, especially from filming my documentaries over the last few years. I’m walking away from today feeling so incredibly inspired by Dame Kelly and all of the incredible work that herself and her team are doing to support young people who are struggling mentally at school, who are going through experiences that are tainting their teenage lives and need people behind them to keep pushing through. Experiences in our early years (ages 0-5) has a monumental, if not, complete impact on the adults we go onto become; and often our adolescence is a time when mental health issues that began through our childhood experiences can begin to show; and thus follow us into adulthood. It’s NEVER too late to make a change… and this programme supports that by mentoring students in group settings as well as assigning them athlete mentors to motivate & inspire them. Incredible work… I wish something like this existed when I was younger. 🤍🙌🏼congratulations to you Kelly for making such a huge difference and for putting your heart into creating something so wonderful. You have inspired me beyond words!🤍 #mentalhealthawarenessweek Bath, UK
