Traditional characteristics of an introvert include: requiring quiet to concentrate, taking time to make decisions, and needing time to recharge after a highly social event, to name a few. Sometimes these characteristics can be interpreted as being antisocial, or not a team player at work. Best-selling author Susan Cain shared, “The bias in our culture against introversion is so deep and so profound, and we internalize it at such an early age.” She added that introverts are “routinely passed up” for leadership positions. In fact, in a 2021 YouGov survey, 52% of Americans said they were more introverted than extroverted, with 12% calling themselves “completely introverted.” It’s time to consider the immense potential of introverts in leadership positions. Introverts are known to possess high levels of creativity, they’re critical thinkers and problem solvers, they’re great listeners, and they’re thoughtful risk-takers. We want to hear from you!
