Breaking my no-post December vow to talk about the extraordinary experience we had last night at the beautiful new @sohoplace theater in London’s West End. Went to see my sis @marthaplimpton in “As You Like It”…a play I thought I knew well, and had even performed in—twice. Martha killed it, naturally—had me bawling from the jump and I was inexplicably filled with such pride watching her. I have nothing to do with these skills—(ALWAYS rooted. ALWAYS grounded. Calm. Knows what the scene needs but is still open enough to be immediately affected by and immediately incorporate accidents. Facility with language….). She’s a marvel, for sure. But this I knew. This I love. What I wasn’t prepared for was the production as a whole. So moving. So joyful and musical. I think this director @josierourke is a genius. Can’t wait to work with her. She infused this production with so much intelligence and joy. She connected the scenes in ways I never saw coming and exposed a depth in one of Shakespeare’s “lighter” plays that I had previously missed. Design was worthy of the beautiful space. Gorgeous. #MichaelBruce wrote a beautiful score. Whole cast is great. @_leah_harvey_ @rose.a.e #TomMison, @alfieenochofficial, national treasure #JuneWatson, @dickon.gough and the rest of the ensemble. Perfect night in the theater (and it’s been a while). Go see it. Runs til around the end of January or so. Take a plane or a bus or tube or walk. But go see it. It’s just what the doctor ordered.

Really enjoyed this public chat between @gdtreal and #TimBlakeNelson about Tim’s first novel, “City of Blows.” Tim’s an old friend. We met on my first job out of school, off off Broadway. Then he authored one of my first lead roles in his play EYE OF GOD. While I don’t see him as often as I’d like, he holds a special place in my heart and I rejoice in his long list of varied successes and am inspired at the long-range vision he has always had for his life. The novel is a wonderful read and I’m tearing through it. Pick it up. (And thank you @joshstamberg for coming with). #CityofBlows
