Guy Martin Instagram – Guy is a regular worker for Godfrey’s throughout the year and he is ending 2022 on the tractor with them. They are one of over 3000 sugar beet growers in the UK supplying British Sugar this year, they are the 10th* largest grower of sugar beet for British Sugar in the UK. There are 4 factories throughout the country, Bury St Edmunds, Cantley, Newark, Wissington, these factories process over 8 million tons of sugar beet which produces 1.5 million tons of sugar a year. This year frosts have damaged a lot of beet in the UK that is still in the ground and still to be harvested. They are open from mid-October until early March. Godfrey’s also grows sugar beet for a AD plant producing electricity, next year they are more than doubling the area of sugar beet grown, which will make them one of the largest growers in the UK.
