Also known as the Joul’huasi- I would say they are the kindest & most gentle people I have ever met in all my #travels. Their language includes complex clicks made from different parts of their mouth, tongue, lips & throat. The San Tribe are known as Africa’s oldest tribe. More correctly, the first descendants of ALL Homo Sapiens on earth. To where all of the diversity, shapes, sizes, languages, ethnicities of all humans of yesterday & today have originated from.
For 100s of thousands of years they were the predominant population covering central Africa. But over the recent centuries the #Hunter-gatherer San have been displaced and out-competed by the cattle herding tribes such as the Massai. Their cattle eat all the grass & vegetation leaving no food for the native African animals. And so all of the food that the San traditionally hunt. As well any available water sources become only available to the more powerful and defensive pastoral tribes & their domesticated animals.
Furthermore, colonization from the Dutch & British since the 18th century decimated nearly 80% of the San population. The San were forced into slavery as well as horrifically being hunted as African game. Now the remaining San have been pushed to the extremely harsh remaining landscapes in various parts of Southern Africa.
The San traditionally were “pursuit hunters”. With the assistance of small poison tipped arrows, the San would literally chase down their prey on foot (often times taking days of constant running) over the African savanna landscape. Their prey would eventurally succumb to heat exhaustion or die of thirst. As humans have evolved they became up right, bipedal making for a very efficient long distance running morphology. Being hairless & able to sweat we could disipate heat. With arms we could carry #water & #weapons. We are not the fastest but very capable modern day running athletes (this includes San #hunters) have the ability to outrun any animal in the animal kingdom. The San are who made humanity.
