Sam Dede Instagram – Spirit of Resistance! [5th June, 1989] Remember TANK MAN?
After weeks of protests against the Chinese Government by students and workers at the Tiananmen Square, the government ordered a violent crackdown, killing over two thousand.
As this column of armoured tanks drove to Tiananmen Square, a young man in white shirt, carrying two shopping bags, stepped in front of the lead tank, obstructing the advance of the column.
Till today, his identity and whereabouts [and the contents of his shopping bags] remain unknown. He is simply remembered globally as THE TANK MAN [The Unknown Protester]
This photograph by Jeff Widener, @imagechase.jeffwidener has been described as one of the most iconic images of the 20th century.
