Adrienne C. Moore Instagram – #BTS What an amazing, exhausting, fulfilling 3 weeks this year has been since I embarked on this play #blackodysseycsc @classicstage. I can’t describe how this piece is pulling every bit of creativity out of me. From singing to dancing, comedy to gut wrenching drama, this JOYFUL and INTERACTIVE theater piece takes you on a journey. To know Marcus Gardley and his words is to know what an honor it is to speak them. He is Langston Hughes, August Wilson and James Baldwin rolled into one and I’m truly humbled at the opportunity. Reimagining Homer’s THE ODYSSEY, we find Ulysses, returning from war in Afghanistan. He’s been uprooted and lost at sea with Paw-Siden in hot pursuit. Struggling to find his way home, Ulysses journeys through time, place and even his memory to retrace his roots to discover who he really is and finally make it home. I’m so fortunate to play 3 amazing, yet different characters that he’ll meet along the way: ALSENDRA SABINE, a wife and mother stranded on her roof in the 1968 South; CIRCE, the great conductor of the middle passage, who Ulysses must pass through in order to get a pass home and the soulful CARIB’DISS of the SOUL SIRENS, who’s trying to lure him away from getting home.
