Snares are animal traps shaped in the form of flexible noses made of cable, wire, or rope, and have caused a major decline in wildlife populations. Despite this there is some positive news to share. A Zero Snaring campaign was launched in Cambodia last year and has resulted in the removal of an estimated 40% of snares, and the confiscation of 50% of homemade guns, in protected areas like the one where my family has worked with a local team for over twenty years to try to slow deforestation and protect the forest and its wildlife.
