Indy Srinath Instagram – Phenology is simply the observation of the relations between climate recurring biological events. If you follow your granny’s planting advice, chances are you’re using phenology.
Here are a few examples of phenology:
✨Plant corn when Oak leaves are the size of a squirrel’s ear
✨When the forsythia is in bloom, plant peas, onion, and lettuce.
✨Look for dandelions to bloom before planting potatoes. 
✨Perennial flowers can be planted when the maple trees begin to leaf out.
✨When the apple blossoms fall, plant pole beans and cucumbers.
Phenology helps you plant crops on time, without the danger of frost and certain pests.
Planting according to phenology is heavily reliant upon which agricultural zone you’re in. It’s easy to look up your ag zone, then search for phenological planting times according to that.
Climate change greatly affects phenology, so I encourage farmers and gardeners to keep their own phenological journal to record changes over time.
