Q’orianka Kilcher Instagram – ❗️❗️May 5th is recognized as National Day of Awareness for Missing and Murdered Native Women and Girls. We wear red to honor our lost relatives and call their spirits home. The red handprint symbolizes our solidarity. NO MORE STOLEN SISTERS! For far too long the high number and rate of missing and murdered indigenous women, girls, has gone largely ignored. Here are some facts about violence against Native Women: We are 2.5x more likely to be raped than white women. We are more likely to be raped by a perpetrator of a different race. 84% of indigenous women experience violence in our lifetime. they are murdered at a rate 10X higher than the national average. 96% of rapes are perpetrated by nonNative men, but non-Native offenders are rarely prosecuted on tribal lands. Cases of missing and murdered indigenous woman often go underreported and untracked. This is unacceptable. We must continue to educate and raise awareness on this crisis to help amplify those voices who are seldom heard. Lets honor their lives and memories by continuing to push for visibility, change and action for all future generations! Lets keep moving forward! Resist! Persist!
