Sophia Wallace Instagram – Have you ever been advised to surrender? This is something I heard all the time when I was pregnant. In the context of inevitable suffering, true danger and the great unknown, this hollow advice is offered. Encouraging girls, women and femmes to surrender seems like grooming to me. It encourages us to accept whatever happens, not to ask questions, not to speak up when our boundaries are crossed. I think the advice to “surrender” should be given to the police, to fossil fuel executives, to corrupt politicians of all parties, to billionaires and arms manufacturers. The only surrendering I am doing is to my pleasure. Yes, I will lower my guards when I am treated with respect and dignity, when I am among community. I will not ignore my instincts, but I will embrace my joy because it is a helpful messenger.
