Chadwick Boseman Instagram – On June 19, 1865, Union troops landed on the Texas shores to let the enslaved people of the state know they had been freed from slavery more than two years earlier on January 1, 1863 by Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation. Knowing Chadwick Boseman has always been about reveling in both the joy and the lessons in life, so today we celebrate #Juneteenth as a nation for the first time, making sure that we also understand it’s history. This symbolic victory is a step in the right direction, but we have miles ahead of us as we continue to fight for equity, reparations and justice reform, and against voter suppression, food insecurity and the laundry list of issues that have debilitated our community for centuries. Everyone’s traditions around this holiday may be different, but it’s vital that we continue to accurately acknowledge our past, celebrate present victories, and move forward in unity to build a better future.
