Our show Big Sky Kitchen was honored with the 2023 @beardfoundation Instructional Visual Media award last night ⚡️
Surrounded by team and peers I reflected as I cheered heartily for my fellow nominees @testcook @lan_cooks and others in their respective categories.
When the bubbles are gone, the floor is swept and tomorrows menu breaks the horizon of my short term focus one thing stands out quite clearly for me.
Food has become a noun in our daily lives. Almost benign at times.
Reimagined, food as a verb, transforms to eating/living/growing/dying/regenerating. In that echange we are the catalyst for life and the drivers of this elemental human need.
And so, as Chef’s, Writers, Editors, Directors, Photographers and more, we collectively are accountable to our co creators in this space. The Growers, Farmers, Ranchers, Environmental shepherds and water, soil, plants and animals themselves.
By my Almanac, the opportunity zone here is ripe and ready. If not starving for equity in an archaic ecosystem that in its efficiency has denatured and distilled our most vital point of connection and celebration to that of counting calories and capital.
And so, this award fills my tank and straightens my knifes edge. It’s back to business and that’s fine by me. Stay in touch, say hello and join me and the other heroes in the room last night and those out in the field in bringing RELATION back to our food story.
The next time you take a bite or sip of anything, consider saying “thank you” to the food itself. And of course stay curious in this renaissance we are in where our past is being composted through action. It’s a beautiful thing to witness and brings me great hope.
