My little teacher who showed up and taught me how to love unconditionally, to trust and earn trust. As someone who has often felt “tricky” to love (had been told I was tricky once by a therapist…,) I found my tricky counterpart in Desi. And I learned that “tricky” isn’t bad or hard, just different and specific. And then, that “tricky” is full of care and patience and sweetness. Desi was treated pretty badly before we met, he had a bb bullet in his side and thus had a ton of anxiety and fear around people, and so we had to figure out how to start again— and we did, together. I’m so lucky to have gotten to share my life with the gentlest, weirdest, hilarious, most handsome companion during some of the most difficult, significant and transformative years I’ll probably ever have. I will forever be grateful we found each other and for @muttscouts for finding Desi.

When a being dies, people say the sadness you feel is equivalent to the amount you loved them. And that feels true, a wave of loss for my little shadow who is no longer here. My best friend and confidant. My four time cross country backseat companion. My anxious wingman.

I write all this mostly to say I miss my boy and that “tricky” is my new prerequisite. Also dogs are just… well if you know you know.
