Andrea Barber Instagram – My first Christmas movie, CHRISTMAS ON CANDY CANE LANE, premieres this Saturday, December 3rd on @gactv!

This movie is produced by one of my closest and longest-standing friends of 35 years, @candacecbure. I love Candace. She has been a wonderful friend over the course of many ups and downs in our lives. We don’t agree on every issue, and that’s okay! Our friendship is stronger than our differences. ❀️

I love this movie for a lot of reasons, one of which is because I relate so deeply to my character, Ivy Donaldson. Navigating divorce, single motherhood, learning to co-parent around the holidays, grieving the loss of a parent – I saw a lot of myself in Ivy and tried to bring all of those complicated emotions to my character. Which brings me to an important point…

To see aspects of yourself play out on a TV screen can be a transformative and affirming experience. Finding characters you can relate to on a deeper level is significant. Which is why representation matters. My wish is that this network, which is named Great American Family, considers the power and responsibility of representation and inclusion. Because every child, from all walks of life, should be able to watch movies, see themselves reflected on their TV screens and think, β€œMy family is great, too.” ❀️
