Emma Bell Instagram – It’s here folks. We asked in meetings and the union has heard us. We want a strike authorization before we go into negotiations June 7th. Please, my fellow SAG/AFTRA friends, vote for a strike authorization. Voting starts tomorrow May 18th through June 5th.
What is a strike authorization you ask? It’s not voting to actually strike. But a yes vote allows our union to threaten a strike backed by the union members as leverage in our negotiations.
If you don’t know what we’re so upset about please visit the SAG/AFTRA website for full details but in a nutshell:
✨ we want better wages when we do book a job as base wages have not grown with the times
✨better residuals on streaming. Steaming platforms typically pay 1/3 of what major networks pay on residuals. Residuals are what keep middle class actors ALIVE in career droughts
✨less holding time on contracts now that shows are, on average, 6-10 episodes a season instead of 22.
✨ restrictions, reimbursement & ownership rights of AI technology and using likeness. THIS IS A BIG DEAL.
It is my personal opinion we have this one opportunity to really shape and secure all creatives’ futures in this industry. If we don’t stand together within ourselves and with our sister unions we are weaker at the negotiating table and the effects of not being ahead of these issues could be absolutely paralyzing for most actors.
