A YES vote does NOT mean we WILL strike. If the results are in the majority, a YES vote gives our Board the authorization to strike if the negotiations for our upcoming tv/theatrical contract deem it necessary.
I know that many of us need/want work. Of course! We want to work as much as possible. That’s why we joined this union! However, like many of you who earn our living as performers in television and film, I’ve seen the negative changes in our industry and how they have affected my income, my family and that of my friends and colleagues. Issues such as reduced residuals, caps on health care and pension contributions, reduced wages for a media that is no longer “new,” loopholes that allow productions to put their costs onto the backs of actors and more are on the table.
We need to stand in solidarity with our union brothers and sisters #WGA #DGA #IATSE and fight for better, safer working conditions for the entire industry. We need to ensure that this profession remains one in which all performers, not just the top 1%, can earn a living wage. Working in this industry may be a dream for many, but that doesn’t mean it’s a hobby for us. We deserve and demand to be paid fairly for the contributions we, as performers, make to an industry that brings in billions of dollars per year.
