Frida Gustavsson Instagram – I have always been drawn to Venus, the patron godess of Pompeii and the erotic sphere. Arisen from the deep ocean on a shell; born as a product of her father Ouranus’ severed genitals being thrown into the sea (!), she is the foam-born godess and rich-crowned Cytherea called Aphrodite by gods and men. Here she gently rests on a mural on the back wall of the peristyle of Casa della Venere in conchiglia in Pompeii. Her depiction serves, to me, as a beautiful reminder that powerful women can arise from the most challenging circumstances. A true masterpiece 🐚❤️
