1. Nothing is guaranteed. You’re freezing potential fertility though I know many previously frozen eggs that are now chilling in diapers!🤗
2. You’ll begin with a consultation with a Fertility Specialist, not your OBGYN, who will access your fertility status through blood tests (AMH) and trans vaginal ultrasounds to see what’s what.
3. Egg Retrieval is the first step in #ivf so welcome to the damn club! It’s typically a 10-14 day process consisting of daily injections, usually in the abdomen, to stimulate egg production and prompt ovulation. The medication contains FSH & LH hormones.
4. Don’t even THINK about drinking alcohol or smoking when preparing for or during an egg freezing cycle. Your little egg cells don’t need your drama so eat right and stay away from environmental hazards like BPA in plastics.
5. You may feel bloated, tired, cranky, and a little (or a lot) sore when those follicles are multiplying and growing up. Expect discomfort.
6. The process mimics nature so you’ll have multiple appointments with ultrasounds and blood tests so your doctor (or in my case a team) can best predict when it’s time for your TRIGGER SHOT; the last shot before retrieval day. 💃🏽
7. Trigger shots hurt yo!!😩 And they may be in the booty or the abdomen (like me). This perfectly timed shot is crucial before the procedure and cannot be missed (none of them can).
8. You are put to sleep 😴 for the retrieval and won’t remember a thing sis. Now, I’m stubborn so anesthesia didn’t take for me at first. I remember my doctor turned out the lights (pitch black), I cussed him out (true story), & the next thing I remember was him and Mama Stew waking me up saying he retrieved 32 eggs.
9. You will retrieve more eggs than you freeze. An embryologist will determine if their health & size can be successfully frozen for future use to create embryos!
10. Once frozen your eggs will be stored until or IF you need them
