Rachel Hollis Instagram – I’ve dreamed of walking the Camino de Santiago for YEARS but couldn’t figure out how to pull it off with four kids (The 500 mile pilgrimage typically takes at least 40 days)

But, for the first time ever, all my kids are at summer camp at the same time!!

So I realized —while not conventional— I could take on the Camino in stages.

So…

Flew to Spain and started walking. 20 miles. Then 13 miles. Then 16 more. Drank a lot of espresso. Ate a lot of bread and cheese. Stayed the night in Pensions. Drank more coffee. And beer. And pintxos… so many pintxos. Broke out in tremendous blisters and hives (more on that later) kept freaking walking. Ancient roads from the 1100’s. The most beautiful Basque Country you can imagine. One million cowbells tinkling as you pass. Random strangers who offer you coffee and invite you in to use their restroom. Buen Camino!

So hard. So good. So grateful.
