Stacey Abrams Instagram – Today, we celebrate fathers who instill the wonder of curiosity, the ability to solve problems, and the call to do good. I am grateful to my dad, Rev. Robert Abrams, a man of deep faith and conviction, who taught me and my siblings these valuable lessons. My parents raised us to know faith is not only about belief; it is a call to engage our communities. Whether it was hearing about his arrest at 14 for registering voters in Mississippi or standing with him boycotting gas stations that supported apartheid policies in South Africa, my father showed us that we are obliged to take action to right persistent wrongs. He and my mother held those values during tough times, never knowing if their work would lead to change. Never knowing if their circumstances would get better or worse. Which is another lesson from my dad: having nothing is not an excuse for doing nothing. Happy Father’s Day, Daddy. And to all fathers who inspire us to be curious, to solve problems and to do good, thank you. We are blessed by you: those who teach us resilience in the face of challenge, to stand up for what we believe in and to never stop trying to create a world where justice thrives.
