White Instagram – Very excited to announce that World One TV we will be streaming 15 titles from the Retro Afrika Bioscope is a division of Gravel Road Distribution Group that actively locates, acquires, digitally restores and re-releases discarded and forgotten classic African films to a new generation of audiences worldwide.
Our first title is “Joe Bullet” a South African action film released in 1973. It is considered to be one of the first South African Blaxploitation films. The film was directed by Louis de Witt and written by Tonie van der Merwe.
Despite being well-received upon its initial release, the movie faced challenges due to censorship during apartheid-era South Africa. As a result, it was rarely shown in public, and many copies were lost. However, in later years, the film gained some recognition for its significance in South African cinema history.
The story revolves around the character of Joe Bullet, a skilled and charismatic black soccer player who also happens to be an expert martial artist. When a local soccer team becomes the target of violence and corruption by a gang of criminals, they enlist the help of Joe Bullet to protect them and restore peace to their community.
