Vikram Bhatt Instagram – Out of the films that my Grandfather, Vijay Bhatt, directed Ram Rajya was perhaps one that he was most proud of – in close contest with Baiju Bawra which is another one that always spoke about. Ram Rajya was made in 1943, on a budget of five lacs, pretty big at the time, and earned 60 lacs; clearly a colossal success.
It was the first film to premiere in the United States and it was also the only film Mahatma Gandhi saw in his life. I remember my grandfather telling me that people would take their footwear off before going into the theater to watch the film.Â
It was a testament to his faith in his God and it was this same faith that he held close till the last day of his life.
Some films go beyond mere entertainment. They go into the realm of deep faith and worship.
