Meagan Good Instagram – Please take a moment to read AJ’s story : What has been “misleadingly” described as an ongoing feud between neighbors resulted in Susan Lorincz, a 58 year old white woman murdering her neighbor Ajike ‘AJ’ Owens, a Black mother of four small children, on Friday June, 2 2023 in Ocala, Florida. Lorincz was known and well-reported for verbally harassing neighbors, using racial epithets, + calling the police on minors playing in an open field she DID NOT own next to her home + across the street from AJ’s. 35 year-old AJ Owens, accompanied by her 9 year-old son, knocked on Susan Lorincz’s front door on Friday night to question her about her son’s iPad, which was left behind when Susan ran the children away from playing in the field. As AJ knocked on the door, Susan responded with one gunshot through her locked, metal, front-door. Within less than an hour, Ajike was pronounced dead. AJ leaves behind 4 children; Isaac (12), Israel (9), Afrika (7), and Titus (3). June 5th the story broke in national news on The Reid Out with Joy Reid. This was the first time ANY media, local or national, covered the details of the tragic story. A press conference was held with civil rights @AttorneyCrump + Anthony Thomas, as well as AJ’s immediate family members + closest friends. The accused, emboldened by the ‘Stand Your Ground’ (SYG) law, was not arrested until Tuesday, June 6 by the Marion County Sheriff’s Office. At Lorincz’s bond hearing the following week a $154,000 bond was set based upon five initial counts; Manslaughter, Culpable Negligence, Battery and 2 counts of Simple Assault. We are unsatisfied with anything less than a murder charge for this blatant bait and murder of AJ Owens! Family Attorney Anthony Thomas was joined by thousands of community members + advocates who pleaded + protested to change the charge from manslaughter to second-degree murder.
