Melissa Navia Instagram – Starship pilot vest game strong. 🚀 I met so many unbelievable, inspiring, determined, and passionate people at the annual @exploremars Humans to Mars Summit in Washington, DC, but meeting Dr. Sian “Leo” Proctor, a real-life starship pilot, still has me beaming. I gave her a #Mortegas pin, courtesy of @openpike, and she gave me some of her (literally) out-of-this-world artwork. An astronaut, explorer, geoscientist, professor, and space artist, Dr. Proctor was also the mission pilot for SpaceX Inspiration4, the first all-civilian orbital mission. She showed me pictures she took of the Earth at night from space and I showed her…pictures I took of the clouds on my flight from NYC to DC. 😂 So much still to process about what I learned at the #HumansToMars conference, about what is possible, what is already underway, and what is going to take us all working together to finally make happen, but my main takeaway can be summed up by Dr. Proctor’s words: “When we solve for space, we solve for Earth.” Space travel is more than *just* space travel.
