Miranda Hart Instagram – Ten years ago at my 40th Birthday Party (Strictly themed obviously) a friend jokingly said to me “So what will you do for 50?” I replied, not joking, “My dream is I’m in a snowy log cabin with someone I love”. I don’t know why I had that dream for 50 before my 40’s had begun – but it came true this week.
Dreams can come true. Many of mine have. But what living for half a century has taught me, amongst many things, is that those dreams don’t mean that a simple or easy life is granted (does anyone have such a thing?).

My last decade has had the most extraordinary and exhilarating highs and the most confusing and confounding lows. I would never have expected any of them. (And why my book is taking so long to publish as there continues to be more to share!) But they’ve shown me that life by its nature IS up and down, it IS bitter sweet. And when we accept that we celebrate the ups and are less fearful of the downs. We see it all as an unfolding daily mystery understanding more and more that despite all that might be around, there’s always joy. Whether that’s big dreams coming true or a simple smile at steam rising from a calming cup of tea.

I can also tell you that 50 feels not only joyful, but young, light, and full of hope and promise. That’s also definitely unexpected, and I hope reassuring to anyone younger who feels weighed down.

Thank you for the birthday wishes. Thanks to @ditchlingcabin for the lovely welcome. I’n very glad I came across you on a random google search – bit loathe to tell people about it as it’s so divine! And I suppose the heavens are to thank for the snow.

I hope your Christmas season and segue into a New Year can be done peacefully as you let each day unfold as it may, taking gentle steps towards your dreams lest they come true but knowing we’re in control of very little in the end, which I find deeply freeing and exciting.
Hark at me – turned 50, think I’m some sort of wise sage. Oh, I’ve just farted – and we’re back to normal… As you were…
