Virginia Trioli Instagram – In 2010 @brettsheehy put together a Melbourne Festival show at the Myer Music Bowl called “Seven Songs to Leave Behind”, featuring @rickieleejones_ Gurrumul, @johncale @archieroachmusic and Sinead O’Connor. It was an incredible lineup and became an incendiary, transporting night under the spring moon and it was the last time I saw this brilliant, angry, joyous and sad woman sing. Each of the artists chose songs to covet, songs to share, songs of their own. Rickie Lee sang Gangsters Paradise, a performance I’ll never forget, and Sinead blew us away with War, Serve Somebody and Nothing Compares 2 U. Today comes with such sad news but I don’t want to remember the trauma and sorrows today, I want to remember a woman with a voice like wind through a forest: otherworldly and beautiful.
