Devon Gilfillian Instagram – I wrote this song after the 2020 election when so many people I love voted for Trump. I was (still am) pissed. But I refuse to throw people away in my life because of politics. Politics are important and affect our lives in so many ways, but there are so many other things dividing us. For instance, social media preys on the worst parts of ourselves. It divides us by our fears and puts us in our own echo chambers. It reinforces the narrative that people are not worth talking to – or trying to understand – and that divide is where hatred grows. If I can’t reach you, I can’t know you. if I can’t know you, how can I love you? I believe if we can see through these obstacles, we can learn to see each other, our struggles, and maybe can push forward ❤️
