Jeremy Jones Instagram – The toe to heal hop turn over exposure and in firm/variable snow is the trickiest and most dangerous turn in snowboarding for two reasons.
-If you catch the tail mid hop turn you can fall.
-There is more edge hold on a toe edge. You can have plenty of control on the toe edge, hop to the heal and unexpectantly not be able to hold your edge. This is why I started riding with my axe/pole in my front hand.
My main focus is to get my front hand on snow as fast as possible. This also helps solve the common mistake of not getting your shoulders around and getting stuck mid turn.
The first turn is always the most scary because you are not sure how your edge will hold.
If your heal edge doesn’t hold you need to stop the fall immediately.
