Sondre Lerche Instagram – After the grand Moulin Rouge! premiere on Wednesday I changed out of my sweat and snot-soaked costume and wore my tux for a second just so I could take this photo before ditching the afterparty and rushing home to rest. I’m glad I did, cause it’s been a roller coaster week in my little land of showbiz ✨a quick recap for my digital archives…

Monday: preview show #4, felt stiff, helpless and uncharismatic, too focused on addressing notes and hitting my marks, in my head, voice weary

Tuesday: preview show #5, trusting my gut and memory, more bold and beautiful, felt amazing

Wednesday: premiere night, woke up with stuffy nose, cold traveled to my throat with great speed, felt feverish by the time we went on, got worse from there. Voice crackled and snapped from the get go, by the end I had lost an octave and sounded like Tom Waits circa ‘83, which strangely suited my character’s development, if not the key of the songs. Got through it supported by the incredible cast and ensemble, went to bed worrying about the future

Thursday, show #2: went to the doctor, prescribed lotsa stuff to get me through next 4 shows, felt high on life and invincible at show, but knew to hold back vocally as drugs give a false sense of recovery

Friday, show #3: woke up feeling the drugs don’t work, everything heavier, short of breath, stuffy, increasingly runny nose, had a specialist put a camera down my throat to check my vocal cords, no damage but recommended eternal rest rather than 3 more shows, come showtime we were all on fire again

Saturday, show #4 & #5: felt somewhat better, old man’s occasional cough, still stuffy, runny nose still running, pretty much the whole ensemble feeling sick and/or tired at this point, but spirits were high and shows were strong

Sunday: learning sign language 🤐

Next week: 4 more shows, Thursday, Friday & Saturday. Come see us play, we’re very good 💜
