Alex Meneses Instagram – Can you believe this gorgeous ceiling was covered in white plaster for 40 years?
This is the lobby at the Sherry Netherland Hotel. Built in the 1920’s, the Sherry’s owners commissioned artist Joseph Aruta to paint the ceiling basing it on Raphael’s frescoes in the Vatican in Rome.
Water damage had forced the Hotel to plaster over this ceiling and it stayed plastered for 40 years.
The ceiling was accidentally rediscovered by maintenance workers and here it is. Back to its original splendor.
