昔々、ケアラケクア湾の畔で
ハワイ四大神の1人で
【豊穣と平和の神/ ロノ】
が妻と幸せに暮らしていました。
ところがロノの美しい妻に、
近隣の酋長が横恋慕。
ロノは2人の仲を疑い、
妻を殺してしまったのです。
ですが死の直前の妻の嘆きを聞いて
妻が無実だったことを悟ったロノ。
自分の行いを激しく後悔し
「いつか必ず、この海に帰ってくる」と言い残して、
ケアラケクア湾を去っていったそうです。
そのため、この海は
ケアラケクア（神の道）と名づけられました。

【The Myth of Kealakekua】
Once upon a time,
on the shores of Kealakekua Bay,
one of the four major Hawaiian gods,
Lono, the god of fertility and peace,
lived happily with his wife.
However, a neighboring chief became infatuated
with Lono’s beautiful wife,
leading Lono to suspect their relationship.
In a fit of jealousy,
Lono tragically killed his wife.
Upon hearing his dying wife’s lament,
Lono realized her innocence.
Overwhelmed with remorse for his actions,
he declared, ‘Someday, I will return to this sea,’
and departed from Kealakekua Bay.
As a result, this sea was named Kealakekua,
meaning ‘God road.’
