So can the women and children on WIC, families w section 8, farmers, the people of the military, air traffic controllers and the federal workers who have to lose their paychecks while you keep yours.
And we won’t forget come election time.

I think I love @beyonce so much because we grew up together.
In the proverbial way, of course—but also in the way that Black girls who experience metamorphosis parallel to one another know each other’s story without knowing each other.
I’m who Church Girl was written for. If you skip that song, it’s cause you ain’t in this life! I’m a double PK. I wasn’t older than 10 when the spotlight already felt hot in my world-which felt massive to a child learning who she is under the scrutiny of the saints.
I grew up a Church Girl thinking DC’s “Nasty Girl” made perfect sense, hiding from the body God gave me and rarely finding the freedom that felt elusive.
Everything was twice as good for half as much in white spaces, and perfection is a virtue in the Black ones. It was be brilliant, but don’t be too bold. It was confusion between haughtiness and confidence and just choosing neither since humility was next to holiness.
And without knowing all the Church Girls in the world, she knew that she had friends in us who moved mountains and cried fountains.
She knew the oceans of tears we cried because she cried them herself. And she understood well that being who God made you to be and not who man demands you be is how to be placed at the Center of His Will, like our icon @officialtwinkieclark wrote in that sample.
In the show, during Church Girl, Bey turns her virginal, papal white coat into one of many colors-which has Biblical meaning and personal meaning for the women, the queer folks-the cast aside by the holy institutions who love God and know God loves us: we don’t have to perform pure for you because God already made us so.
If I’m an alien superstar (which coincidentally are the risers on which we sat 👽 🎫🙏🏾) then that means when I’m myself, I’m closer to God.
Shout out to some of the people that I love in these flicks who understand this life (@yvettenoelschure 💃🏾, @stevie_elem 🌹, @jovianzayne 🫶🏾), @cheyennekimora for this 🔥durag, and to my man my man my man @kidnoble who I think has had a pretty good start to his birthday 🫶🏾🐝.

I’m going to Broadway! Kinda…
Well, lemme explain:
To know me well is to know 2 things:
1. The Wiz is my all time favorite musical, bar none. Ever since my daddy bootlegged the film for me when I was 5 or so…I’d suffer thru that (still) terrifying subway scene to watch it nonstop! I’ve seen stage productions at The Fox & @stlblackrep and even made my friends watch the film again one fateful NYE 😂.
2. Until college, musical theater was my chosen path. The bug bit me at a young age—my first professional credit was in the @repstl’s ‘93 production of Once On This Island (slide 2 for a #tbt 😩). I was in the fourth grade. My dad came almost every night and always brought a friend 😂. And even though I decided to ultimately pursue other aspirations, my love of theater, the arts and creative industries was aways in my heart.
So when my friend @becausenicoleh reached out and invited @kidnoble and I to be a part of the co-producers group they were assembling… on THIS show of all shows…I knew God was tapping me on my shoulder to let me know that dreams deferred aren’t dreams denied—and just because the journey looks different doesn’t mean the destination isn’t the guaranteed.
And Y’ALL. This reimagining of our beloved classic is STELLAR. I was speechless when I got to congratulate @amberruffin on her brilliant work. And when am I ever speechless?! I levitated the whole way home.
Thrilling new audiences and exciting longtime fans is the TINIEST needle to thread and when I tell you—from the singing to the choreography, writing, acting, and Blackity Black brilliance…baby, THEY DID THAT.
I literally cried. There were several standing ovations—even DURING the show. It was sold out and EVERYBODY loved it.
Go see this show—right now during it’s pre-Broadway national tour and again when it hits Broadway next April!
Thank you @becausenicoleh for an invitation that means more to me than you’ll ever know & @kidnoble for always being willing to chase dreams together.
And thank you to the entire @thewizbway team for reviving our classic in the most unapologetically triumphant way possible—especially in a time where *our* apologies are demanded.

And even though I decided to ultimately pursue other aspirations, my love of theater, the arts and creative industries was aways in my heart.

so here’s the thing about @kidnoble…
When you’re with him, you will laugh, you will think, you will be cared for, and your back will be had.
It’s his consistency that matters. May this be the year all the good you give the world and those you love come back to you tenfold.
May every dream be realized in ways that blow your mind. You’ve worked for it. You deserve it.
Happy birthday, my love. You da best, dada.
