They reminded me that innovation and positive change are always happening around us. 🌵 Two friends created leather out of cactus, in turn saving 1 billion animals from being killed for the sake of fashion. Adrian and Marte, who are based out of Mexico, call this vegan leather “Desserto” and it is shocking how similar it looks and feels to real leather “without harming the environment or animals in the process.”— a creative and thrilling discovery that will make the fashion industry more humane and sustainable. Under a new law in California, the state is required to pay them each $140 for every day they spent behind bars—never enough, but at least establishing consequences for grave injustices in our penal system. Via @insidehistory 🍌France becomes the first country to pass a law prohibiting food waste by supermarkets, making it mandatory for all its supermarkets to give away the unsold food to those in need. Debra Messing Instagram – What an honor to celebrate Rosh Hashana, the Jewish New Year, with @vp and @secondgentleman at their home. I am so grateful for all the support they show to our community and our fight against anti-Semitism. Being there with Jewish leaders, hearing copious wishes of Shana Tova, and the distinct and joyful sound of live klezmer music made me feel like I was with family.
Rosh Hashana marks a new beginning in the Jewish calendar. We take this time to reflect on the last year, and commit to being intentional going forward, with our words, and actions. May we be kinder, more generous, more fair, more compassionate, more patient, more loving, to all. Shana Tova everyone. May you have a sweet New Year. 🍯🍎
