I knew it was his last day because he was no longer eating or drinking and his breath was heavy, laboured. I took him out of the enclosure and he hid beneath my hand, bruxing softly as he napped. I offered him some treats. he ignored them. I played soft hamster music for him, giving him little massages and we sat together, this way in silence. I only hope he was still aware of my presence. two hours later he took his last breath while curled up under my fingers at 724pm. I’ll miss you, I love you so, cheeky little ball.
