Dia Mirza Instagram – This past week was so inspiring! The annual meeting of @unsdgadvocates was the best yet. In these times of fragmentation and crises it was deeply uplifting to be surrounded by individuals who care and are committed to ensuring no one is left behind.

The sustainable development goals #2030Agenda is the road map that will lead our world out of the #ClimateCrises into a more peaceful, inclusive and healthy world for all people.

We have seven years to steer our collective will by making the #GlobalGoals are own. Let’s not wait for governments, world leaders and organisations to #Act4SDGs.

Each one of us can and will pave the path with the power of choice and our individual voice. I know so many of you are already leading the way! It was my privilege to represent you and renew my promise to keep working with you 🌏🦋🐯🌳

Dia Mirza Instagram – A quick recap on what the recently concluded G20 Summit in India focused on before I start to share more about my time here at United Nations General Assembly #UNGA in New York.

India’s G20 Presidency has focused on stronger coordination between the G20 and the United Nations. This is the kind of inclusive leadership that is most needed in our era of global fragmentation.

● Inclusive G20 – both ambitious and inclusive, over 200 meets, 60 cities across India, people’s G20, Voices of Global South Summit held in early 2023, African Union as permanent member, making it more inclusive and consequential.

G20 on Climate Crisis

● On climate action, the IND G20 presidency rightly raised climate financing to the top of the agenda, as part of the ‘Green Development Pact’ which was incorporated into the language of the New Delhi Declaration.

● This compilation of key climate elements, including a globally just energy transition, a commitment to triple renewables capacity, biodiversity linkages, the blue economy, climate finance, and support for renewable energy, can be aligned with the Secretary-General’s call for a ‘Climate Solidarity Pact’ from the G20 and the High-level Week’s Climate Action Summit.

There is still potential for raising ambitions on emissions reductions. As the Secretary-General pointed out in Delhi, G20 countries are responsible for over 80% of global greenhouse gas emissions, and ‘half-measures will not prevent full climate breakdown.’

Global success of 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development Goals literally depends on India, 1/6 of humanity & greatest youth generation, upwards of half of some global SDG targets are here. As an early adopter of SDGs, India demonstrated outstanding commitment to domestic & global success of SDGs. India’s efforts to localize & institutionalize targets and principles have made SDGs a national mission.

You and i have the power to help accelerate progress on the #GlobalGoals by making the goals our own. The #SDGs have to become personal to each of us. Individuals have the extraordinary power to fulfill the promise of a healthy, progressive and peaceful world for everyone, everywhere 🌏🦋🇮🇳
