Felicia Day Instagram – #ThrowbackThursday goes back to when I first become a mom and some of the challenges I encountered there. I had to have a c-section because I had placenta previa, which is where the placenta is over the opening that the baby comes out, and basically it can be medically very dangerous to try to give birth naturally. Then DAY TWO of being a mom, the doctor came in and was like, “Your baby has severe hip dysplasia, we need to put her in a pavlik harness for 3-6 months.” A what…HUH?!

I was stunned. And sobbed uncontrollably as they put this wild contraption on her little legs and body (boy, it was SO PAINFUL to cry huge sobs with a huge stitched up hole in my abdomen, I can’t tell you!)

Learning how to care for an infant is impossible enough, but trying to breastfeed and keep her clean for months after just becoming a parent with this full body thing on…it was a lot. (NO BATHS for 3 months, we couldn’t remove the harness AT ALL. Think about diaper changes and send “old-me” good wishes, haha).

Thank goodness, with the help of the harness and amazing doctors, Calliope is able to run and do everything physical now, her hips grew in perfectly after her treatment. But the whole experience taught me a lot about life, and how you just have to DEAL with what life throws you, one step at a time, the best you can. <3
