Kelsey Crane Instagram – Well my garden experiments continue and I thought I’d share what I’m up to for anyone inspired to GET DIRTY with me 🤝 This is me learning how to grow slips from STORE BOUGHT sweet potatoes aka FREE FOOD 🙌⁣ ⁣

🍠 buy organic sweet potatoes⁣
🍠 place in foil tin with puncture holes for drainage with organic soil under a seedling warming mat ($18) and cooking tray⁣
🍠 keep soil moist ⁣
🍠 when sprouts are about 5-6 inches tall twist sprouts off ⁣
🍠 Remove lower leaves from sprouts and let “root” in a jar of water for 1-2 days⁣
🍠 Plant rooted sweet potato slips 12 and 4 inches deep⁣
🍠 Sweet potatoes need well-draining acidic soil and full sun ⁣
⁣
Next I’ll add organic straw mulch (from @growoya) to my bed to help with reduce watering by up to 50%, reduce weeding, and protect microbes by stabilizing the soil temperature.⁣
⁣
Best Part? Your potatoes will keep sprouting (a dozen slips or more potato) 🌱 so save 💵 on groceries and share with your neighbors 🫶⁣ ⁣
