Kimberly Williams-Paisley Instagram – I got my union card at 13 years old, when my parents let me try to become an actor and were shocked when I miraculously booked my first audition. I was cast as a principal performer in a commercial (meaning I was supposed to be featured on camera), and spent the most wonderful day on a set dancing with a bunch of other performers. In the final ad, I was cut out (that’s show biz) except for the bun on top of my head, my wrist, and possibly my foot. But because I was booked as a principal, I was paid as one, and continued to get residuals from that one job through the next three years of auditioning and booking nothing. Thank you, SAG. Thank you also for continuing to make sure the workplace is safe on set, and for health insurance, and for fighting on behalf of all actors (many living pay check to pay check, some on food stamps), for fair wages. Also, I’ve often thought our performances would be nothing without our writers, and I stand with the #WGA. Last but not at all least, Norman Lear turned 101 yesterday and wanted to be on the picket line but couldn’t, so we made him a special video. Thank you for all that you’ve done to bring joy to our lives over the years, Sir.
