These two gave it everything they had to make sure we would have a better life – both coming from third world countries and my mom from amidst the Vietnam war. They made sure we had all the skills to survive in a system where the competition is fierce and the resources are reserved for those at the top. But the most important thing they did for us was start to question why. Why are we so inculcated with comparison and competition that the measure of being good is being better than someone else? Why are we, in the first world, still under so much survival pressure that we can’t help but accept poverty and starvation as part of life in this world system? Why is this survival pressure necessary in a world full of abundance? It’s necessary to keep us pitted against each other. It’s necessary to make sure we don’t question. It’s necessary because without it, we might realize our prodigious strength in numbers. It’s necessary so we don’t come together and find a solution. Thanks Mom and Dad for being amongst the pioneers of a 100+ year vision to change the system and create a world free of slavery; where children aren’t starving and our bodies aren’t considered government property.
