Lauren Pritchard-Cobb Instagram – I very rarely use my music page for overtly political purposes but the Mayoral election in my hometown has continued to amaze me at how low someone is willing to go to spread hate and misinformation. And sure, it’s an obvious choice to attack your opponent aka our current Mayor but now they have decided to go one step further and take a shot at one of the most positive, inspirational, talented, considerate, honest, caring and trustworthy leaders in our community. @darrenlykes is one of the hardest working individuals I’ve ever had the chance to work with and grow close to. He is a leader in everything he does and he does everything from a platform of compassion and understanding. To attack him shows us everything we need to know about who you really are.
If you think that quoting a bunch of bibles verses is making an effective statement just because you’re up in arms over a drag show that
1. Hurt NOBODY, especially not children and 2. You were never going to attend in the first place – your message isn’t working.
My last thought, as a response to the hate and lies that are being spread is this:
“To the people who lament that America is drifting farther and farther from God:
When exactly were we the most “in tune” with God?
During segregation? During Jim Crow? When women couldn’t vote? When slavery was legal?
When, exactly?”
When you can answer that question then I also ask that you rise up out of your comfort and use your God given freedom to vote for a Jackson that is not hate-filled, segregated or hurting and marginalizing any individuals or people in our community.
