Sara Bareilles Instagram – I am revisiting my journal from 2 days after starting medication. I took advice from @elizabeth_gilbert_writer and wrote letters to Love, and then wrote back to myself in Love’s voice. It is amazing to read this again years later and light years happier. For anyone struggling- you are not alone and it moves like waves- Love told me that. She was right. “Sometimes we forget that our lives stretch out in front and behind in a timeline that is so far beyond our ability to conceive. We remember things as fixed. As permanent. But it’s all like those waves particles being observed- it stops for a moment to let you see what’s in motion. But as soon as you look away… It moves again. You will sort it all out. You have no possible outcome in your life that leaves you in this place. Emotionally or mentally or physically. You are a wave, my darling, and you are observing yourself with such a critical eye, you have become a little self-conscious. Your thinking mind needs to rest. You need to rest. Choose it. Every small gesture of it will be important for your recovery. I say recovery on purpose. You are in recovery– reclaiming, re-designing, repurposing. You are becoming, again. A new. Another. A different. There is a death here, and that is bringing sadness- but you must make room for the joy, my dear one. Reach for the joy and plant it in the scorched earth and as the weather changes yet again, they will rise into the wilderness and ask you to play. Sweet girl- reach for joy and keep going.
