Sheila Kelley Instagram – Recently a follower thanked me for not photoshopping some photos I posted of myself dancing on stage. I was dumbstruck. “What was there to photoshop?” I thought to myself. I went back to my post and scanned the photos with an keen eye. “What had she seen that she thought I should photoshop?”
I looked perfectly imperfect to me. In fact, I looked more perfect than perfection. I looked real. Soft. Round. Curvy, happy as hell. I looked ecstatic.
I was on fire in those photos.
Then I saw it. For a moment I put the “social media glasses on” and saw what she was referring to. I looked “too real.” Round and soft isn’t the IG norm. Hmmm…No, but I’ve never, not ever, not once in my life been or aspired to be “normal.” Not even on IG.
What I will bring you here is a real woman. All me, all the time. My body is authentic. I have dimples and pimples and bumps and scars. I’m aging. I have a muffin top or two, depending on the day.
And I am a woman in full possession of myself. I invite you women who follow me here to do the same. Post photos of yourself in full er0tic expression. In full beauty. In full love and joy through movement. Maybe then we can balance out the overly photoshopped images that make women reach for an impossible standard of beauty.
