Sophia Wallace, @sophiawallaceartist artist, and 2021 CRAVE Foundation grant recipient just released the “Unconquerable” necklace collection for preorder. The collection includes rose, yellow & white gold in solid 14k gold, with and without gemstones. Sophia is wearing a gemstone prototype in rose gold with a deep aqua sapphire. “Unconquerable” orders will ship in September. Pre-order here: http://yescliteracy.com Artist statement: My whole body is precious and belongs to me alone. I am not ashamed, I am grateful. My body allows me to feel, to move, to help, to sense, to take action. I was taught to feel ashamed but that shame does not belong to me. I release it. I meet my whole self with humility and awe. This body is changing and aging. It has given me so much that I was too immature to appreciate until I faced my own mortality and that of my parents, who were always so strong and healthy. I will do my best to take care of my body, knowing that my mind, soul and physical self are indivisible. I reclaim all the denied parts of myself. I bring us all home. Sophia Wallace is a queer, feminist artist best known for establishing an iconography of the clitoridian. For eleven years, Wallace has sculpted, sketched, pasted, inflated and spoken this subject into indelible presence. Artwork by artwork, she counters a suspicious absence in art history, centering clitoridian subjectivity in a world that venerates the phallic. Wallace is exhibited widely in the U.S. and internationally, including Portugal, Spain, Austria, Mexico, Italy, Nigeria, Australia and the U.K.. Her featured TED talk, A Case For Cliteracy has been viewed over 2 million times. She can be seen on BBC/Hulu’s Planet Sex with Cara Delevigne and in The Dilemma of Desire alongside CRAVE co-founder Ti Chang, the winning documentary film at SXSW in 2020.

The joyful reel I made marching with inflatable sculptures at the #nycdykemarch last week was censored. I remade the reel from scratch after the original was deleted completely (reel, data, comments). The only trace of the censorship is in the wonky grid with 2 posts of the march, not 3). According to @instagram @meta @facebook the content “violated community guidelines” that prohibit “hate speech and symbols”. What? Is it the art 🚫 or the dykes 🚫 or rather our 🏳️⚧️🏳️🌈 public assembly en mass for pride that Meta cannot abide? Please support my appeal to educate these algorithms and content reviewers, so that they can distinguish between lgbtq pride vs. hate speech, intersectional, feminist art vs. symbols to incite violence. The experience of being censored has happened to me and so many of my art peers REPEATEDLY across digital platforms for YEARS. We have had no recourse. Only now, is there an oversight board that I can actually appeal to. It will be interesting to see how long this video is allowed to exist. I will keep you all posted. #censored #censorship #bigtechcensorship #algorithm #breakthebias #algorithmskillart #algorithmsofoppression #algoritmoinstagram #algorithmsoflatecapitalism
Summer time work in process. 1. Sunshine and yellow gold. I tried layering ‘Unconquerable Necklace’ with the chain I was baptized in. I don’t wear the cross anymore, but I am very fond of this necklace from my beloved νονά. 2. Morning still life with stones. 3. 14k Solid Rose, Yellow, White Gold 4. Fresh castings 5. Returning from the final polish 6. My holy trinity
