Adam Hagenbuch Instagram – #throwbackthursday to that time I strapped a totally custom 50 pound camera rig to my body and shot a feature film in 1 take. Actually we did 6 takes and we got it on the 6th. But the final film you see is all one unbroken take.
From a technical perspective, “A Beard Grows In Brooklyn” had some interesting challenges. The entire camera package and crew had to fit into a 3ft wide hallway for a majority of the runtime which meant all of our crew movements had to be choreographed. We had to have enough battery and equipment to keep the camera in uptime but we also had to keep it light enough that I could finish the 2 or so mile circuit of movement the film takes place in, and also light enough we could mount a bicycle half way through the film.
We also had to make the entire rig removable and still functional because the film ends with a shot of the camera being lowered down a balcony via a cable, which I physically couldn’t do.
The whole creative process for this movie was a blast and if you’re in NYC this weekend I hope you can come by and check out the finished product at New York CineFest.
