Justin Welby Instagram – Over 100,000 people have fled their homes in Nagorno-Karabakh. I met some of them today in Kecharis, where they were being cared for by the Armenian Orthodox Church. Their stories pierced my heart. Please pray for them and do not forget them. Pray for the churches and others who are supporting them. And please pray for all those around the world who have been forced to flee their homes.
Justin Welby Instagram – The people of Armenia are not forgotten – not by God, and not by the Church. Today I began a two-day visit here, having been to Azerbaijan and Georgia earlier this week. I have long been praying for the people of Armenia – the first Christian kingdom. They were the first region to have the cross as their symbol; a symbol of struggle and pain. I’m so grateful for this chance to remind them that in their current struggle, our Armenian sisters and brothers are not forgotten by us, nor by God. Neither are the 120,000 refugees who have fled the Nagorno-Karabakh region – some of whom I will be meeting tomorrow. They remain in my prayers and the prayers of @thechurchofengland. In Azerbaijan on Monday, I met with political leaders and pleaded with them to break the cycle of violence, and protect the religious and cultural heritage of Armenian Karabakhs. And at the remarkable Peace Cathedral in Georgia on Tuesday, we prayed together for peace and reconciliation around the world. Together we asked God to refresh our love for non-violence, to refresh our love for our neighbours. May peacebuilding across borders of all kinds continue to be our hearts’ cry.
