Kilian Jornet Instagram – Norway’s state-owned oil company @Equinor wants to develop Rosebank, the biggest undeveloped field in the UK. It would produce more CO2 than the world’s 28 lowest income countries do in a year. It would fuel the climate crisis & threaten endangered marine species. The UN and the International Energy Agency have warned that we can have NO NEW oil and gas expansion if we want to make our very narrow window to limit warming to 1.5C – the safest level still possible. The Norwegian and UK government are ignoring climate science and their own climate targets when sanctioning new fossil fuel projects like Rosebank. A decision on Rosebank could come any day. Now is the time to raise our voices against climate destruction and demand and end to new fossil fuel projects. Rich countries like Norway and the UK need to take responsibility for their contribution to the climate crisis, not continue to profit from climate-wrecking oil and gas. Governments need to urgently be investing in real solutions to the energy & climate crisis like cheaper renewable energy.
