Killer Mike Instagram – Grammy Voting opens today. I must admit, I want, deserve, and intend to receive one for “MICHAEL”. This album represents my blood, tears, and soul in audio. It is a cinematic look into the depth of my sense of self. However, it is not just my own experience. “MICHAEL” is an American story. It is a timeless tale of a boy in a southern city finding his way into manhood, guided by the knowledge, wisdom, and understanding of the women who love him. “MICHAEL” the album represents Black America through my personal lens. It is strong, proud, and deserving of recognition for its powerful narrative. It overcomes, as the old spirituals prophesied. “MICHAEL” is Langston and Baldwin on a beat. It’s August Wilson guided by Zora Neale. It embodies the vibes of Mahalia Jackson and Curtis Mayfield. As I like to proclaim, or as the song scientists and engineers would say, “I am Thelonius Monk in a Donk.” This album is a renaissance album from a renaissance man & the women that love him.   It is time to reward the album that speaks to the entire human experience – the trials, the tribulations, and the hard-fought triumphs. That album and its songs are “MICHAEL”. The Recording Academy Trophy will not find a better example of stellar art from the heart than this album, in this moment in time. ☦️ #MICHAEL
