Formed over decades, Spike Lee’s personal collection offers a new lens through which we can learn how his lifelong interests have intersected and impacted his work. As part of Spike Lee: Creative Sources, you’ll see more than 350 objects representing the filmmaker’s sources of inspiration, such as historical photographs, paintings, album covers, movie posters, letters, first-edition books, costumes, and film memorabilia (many of which are autographed and signed to the director).

Boy, Oh Boy, Oh Boy I Wish I Still Had Those Joints, Which Are Long, Long And Gone. It Was When I Was At Morehouse College And NYU Grad Film Where I Began Collecting Again. I Now Have Acquired So Much That I Now Say I Have A Museum.
As A Part Of The Historic 2021 Opening Of The Academy Museum Of Motion Pictures In Los Angeles I Was Honored
With An Exhibition Of Some Of My Biggest Inspirations, Artifacts, And Art From My Personal Collection. This Included Items Such As The Suit I Wore When I Accepted My Oscar For Best Adapted Screenplay For BLACKKKLANSMAN, A Guitar Gifted To Me By THE Late Prince Rogers Nelson, Wynton Marsalis’ And Terence Blanchard’s Trumpets Signed To Me, Brandford Marsalis’ Saxophone Signed To Me, Movie Posters Of Films By Coppola, Spielberg, Lucas, Scorsese, Fellini, Billy Wilder, Kirk Douglas, Paul Newman, Ryan Coogler, Melvin Van Peebles, Sidney Poitier, Terrance Malick, And Akira Kurosawa Signed to Me Also And Much More. If You Didn’t Get A Chance To Make It There All Of The Items Of This Unique Exhibition Have Been Consolidated Into This Beautiful Book Which Comes Signed By Me.
