Still, it didn’t take much convincing to get Pednekar on board as protagonist Kanika Kapoor, who starts the movie eager to earn what’s long eluded her: an orgasm. Pednekar instantly recognized the story as a hilarious but heartfelt opportunity to confront the taboo, a responsibility she takes seriously as the movie hits select theaters. “If you speak about the want to have sex, or if you discuss your sexual life openly—I mean, [people] look at you like, ‘Oh my God, you’re a creature from a different part of the world,’” she says. “Because it scares people.
